Alvar Myhlback has been a smash hit during the summer.
Now the Swedish 16-year-old is praised by Petter Northug.
– He can become a jewel, says the icon.
Among the Swedish skiing public, there may not be many who are aware of Alvar Myhlback. But during the summer, the Swedish 16-year-old has been called the “greatest cross-country talent in the world”.
Praised by Northug
During the SC competitions last spring, he won silver together with the veteran Teodor Peterson in the team sprint, and during the summer he has made a big impression during various roller skiing competitions. And the uproar has not escaped ski fans in Norway.
Petter Northug has noted Myhlback’s progress, and he does not hold back in his praise. Northug believes that Myhlback can make an impression already this winter.
– It is a good talent that Sweden has here. He can become a jewel, says Northug to NRK.
“Seems very solid”
Myhlback has lived in Norway for four years, and during roller skiing competitions during the summer he has faced some of Norway’s very best. And he certainly hasn’t lost his way.
– He seems very solid, and he has done very well in the roller skiing competitions. I spoke to Even Northug (Petter’s brother), and the Swede gave him a good fight in the race, says Petter Northug.
This winter, the junior WC awaits for the Swede, who is also part of a long-distance team. However, Myhlback himself feels no pressure – but rather looks forward to the winter and showing his capacity.
– I hope I can live up to expectations. It’s not something I feel pressure about, it’s just a goal, he says.
