A strong earthquake has shaken the coastal area of ​​the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Far East of Russia.

The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.2, and it occurred at a depth of more than 50 kilometers, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC). The US Geological Survey, on the other hand, reported that the magnitude of the earthquake would be 7.0.

The US National Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami warning after the earthquake.

The epicenter was about 90 kilometers east of the coastal city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The earthquake happened after seven in the morning local time.

The Kamchatka Peninsula is located on the easternmost edge of Russia and juts deep into the Pacific Ocean.
