An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.9 hit the island of Kyushu in Japan on Monday, says the European and Mediterranean Seismological Center EMSC.
According to EMSC, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 37 kilometers. The news agencies Reuters and AFP report on the matter.
Due to the earthquake, a tsunami warning has been issued for waves up to one meter high, reports the news agency AP, referring to the data of the Japan Meteorological Center.
The island of Kyushu is located in the southwest of Japan.
