De Machinerie was a project by three cultural institutions to create a center for visual culture. Four multifunctional cinemas were to be built in the old Central Studios on the Gietijzerstraat, as well as workplaces, studios, event and exhibition spaces. Catering was also planned. The project ultimately did not get off the ground because the partners canceled the plan, and it cost the municipality a lot of money.
