Two Swedes were shot dead in Brussels on Monday evening, in a suspected act of terrorism.
Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer (M) states that the government is in contact with its Belgian counterpart.
“This evening we have received terrible information from Brussels,” says Gunnar Strömmer (M) in a written comment to TT.
“The government office and relevant authorities are working intensively to get more information about what happened. The government is in direct contact with the Belgian government. We will get back to you when we have more information,” writes Strömmer.
TT has contacted Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) for a comment. He refers via his press secretary to Strömmer’s statement.
Magdalena Andersson, party leader of the Social Democrats, has commented on the incident on X (formerly Twitter):
“Terrible news from Brussels tonight about dead Swedes in a suspected act of terrorism. My thoughts go out to the victims and their families. It is important that all Swedes on site in Brussels listen to the Belgian authorities’ recommendations,” she writes.
Muharrem Demirok (C), Jimmie Åkesson (SD) and Ebba Busch (KD), among others, have also commented on the suspected act of terrorism in social media.
Johan Pehrson, party leader of the Liberals, writes the following on X:
“Terrible information from Brussels that two Swedes have been shot dead in a suspected act of terrorism. A great sadness. My thoughts are with those affected and their relatives,” he writes.
