Strömmer (M) on the terrorist threat: “Taken measures”

Gunnar Strömmer emphasizes that both Säpo and the government during the summer, due to the recent Koran burnings, communicated that Sweden has become an increasingly prioritized target for terrorist attacks than it was six months ago.

– During the summer, we have taken a number of tightening measures. We have given the Security Police the task of intensifying the work together with 14 other authorities that are part of a close cooperation council regarding the work against terrorism, he says.

– We have given the police the task of intensifying the work with border control in order to control to a greater extent who enters Sweden.

Terror threat level unchanged

However, Säpo’s five-scale terror threat level remains at a third, an elevated level. It is up to them whether the level should be reassessed, according to Gunnar Strömmer.

– It is an assessment that the Security Police makes based on information that is produced in collaboration with Säpo, the military intelligence service, the defense radio station and other information provision. The head of the security police said during the summer that, within the framework of the third, we pushed ourselves closer to a four, but as I said, it is a strategic and long-term measure that should not really respond to individual events, he says.
