(Finance) – New tug of war in sight between Unions and Government in view of the agitation announced for next Monday. “I don’t accept 24 hours of blocking public transport because it would be chaos. If they apply common sense I won’t intervene, but if they think of stopping the whole of Italy for 24 hours I won’t allow it and I will do everything the law allows me to do” . This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Matteo Salvini, entering the Conftrasporto Forum, answering those who asked him if he was ready to be summoned for the strike on Monday 27 November, proclaimed by the grassroots unions.
“Some grassroots unions have called a national strike on local public transport for next Monday. Since I believe that the right to strike is sacrosanct but also the Italians’ right to work, we will try to limit the inconvenience as much as possible”, the Minister had already said yesterday.
The tension between the Government and the Unions remains high Maurizio Landini who will miss tomorrow’s meeting in Palazzo Chigi. The leader of the CGIL and the other leaders have in fact received an invitation from Giorgia Melon but tomorrow, she says, she will be in Turin for the strike. He won’t be able to be there at 3pm, she said, replying to Daniela Preziosi during the L’Europa di Domani newspaper event.
And there is also space for a quip: “I don’t have the gift of ubiquity, tonight I’m leaving for Turin and tomorrow afternoon I have a train. I can’t stop trains, I have to respect the rules, I can’t be there at 3pm”, he said, riding the controversy over the Minister of Agriculture Francesco Lollobrigida. “We will see how to do it, we are good people but we should also have a bit of respect and etiquette not towards the trade union organizations but towards the workers”.
“I imagine there will be other meetings on the days of the other strikes, November 27th and December 1st. If organizing strikes is enough to organize meetings, we’ll see what we can do.” he added.
