The Corunna Street Festival runs 10 am to 3 pm on a section of Lyndoch Street to be closed to traffic, between Fane and Cameron streets, to make way for vendors and free entertainment.

The street festival was one of several special events held last year in Corunna during the 200th anniversary of the survey of the St. Clair Township community.

“It was quite popular, and people wanted us to repeat it,” said Tracy Kingston, chairperson of the Corunna 200 committee.

She estimated as many as 1,000 people attended through the day last year.

“We still had money in our budget,” and township council endorsed a request from organizers to use the remaining funds for a second festival, Kingston said.

It costs $15,000 to $20,000 to stage the event, she said.

“It was busy all day,” she said about the initial festival. “It was just so cool to see so many people who just showed up and loved it.”

Admission is free and there will be stilt walkers, inflatables, games, face painting and, new this year, an Indigenous dance, song and drum showcase at noon, Kingston said.

There will be other entertainers throughout the day, including the Rhinestone Rodeo, plus a zumba demonstration and a “mermaid meet and greet” in the afternoon, she said.

There will also be a chalk art zone for youngsters to decorate the pavement in a parking lot next to Lyndoch Street.

About 40 vendors are expected for the day, which is more than last year, Kingston said. “That’s all we have space for, otherwise we’d have way more.”

The festival doesn’t include food vendors but plenty of Corunna food outlets are nearby, Kingston said.

Parking near the festival site may be scarce, so Corunna residents are being encouraged to walk or bike, Kingston said.

Also Saturday, the Knights of Columbus will be serving a $12 breakfast (cash only) at the St. Joseph parish hall from 8 am to 11 am There will be free wagon rides nearby from 8 am to 10 am

“One of the best things last year was the weather,” Kingston said. “It was absolutely perfect.”
