Street art: from the street to the museum, Lek & Sowat push the boundaries of traditional graffiti

Street art from the street to the museum Lek

It is one of the most prominent duo of urban art in France. Lek & Sowat, whose real names are Frédéric Malek and Mathieu Kendrick, share a common taste for Urbex (urban exploration), a discipline that consists of exploring the city in search of modern ruins. Their experiments bring together videos and installations.

In 2012, the project Mausoleum, a clandestine artistic residence in an abandoned shopping center, has caught the attention of one of the great contemporary art museums in Paris, the Palais de Tokyo. The museum invites them to spend two years, surrounded by some sixty urban arts artists, creating an experimental exhibition in the bowels of the building, the Lasco Project.

Since then, the duo has multiplied collaborations with artists from various backgrounds.

Lek & Sowat are present as part of the exhibition UPPERCASE LETTERS) at theCity Hall of Paris dedicated to urban art, from Saturday, October 15, 2022 to Saturday, February 11, 2023.
