Streamer predicts Kick’s demise, but before that he’d like to make money from it

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Many Twitch streamers are currently being asked by their viewers if they can imagine switching to the controversial competitor platform Kick. Some are more reserved, citing moral concerns, for example. Not so Chance “Sodapoppin” Morris. The 29-year-old explains why he would switch immediately for a million dollars.

What is Kick about? Kick was touted by streamer Tyler “Trainwreck” Niknam as a fair alternative to Twitch in December. Investors in the discredited online casino Stake are said to be behind the platform.

On Kick, sexual and gambling content is much less strictly regulated, and copyright doesn’t seem to be viewed that closely either. The platform also offers a 95/5 split for subs: This means that 95% of the money from paid subscriptions should go directly to the content creators.

In the chats of many streamers, the question has repeatedly arisen as to whether they will go to Kick or at least could imagine doing so. But even someone who has already made the change is critical:

Streamer becomes successful on Twitch with GTA 5, says: It is morally unacceptable to show the casino – do it anyway

Sodapoppin doesn’t bother with such concerns. In a March 2 stream, he made it clear that he would be there immediately for the right offer.

Sodapoppin predicts a bleak future for Kick

What does the streamer say about Kick? Sodapoppin, acclaimed by fans for his hard-nosed manner, had little to think about it on March 2 when a viewer asked him about a transfer.

However, the 28-year-old does not seem to be convinced of the big promises of the new streaming platform. Rather, he is already speculating that Kick will go down the drain:

You know what? I would take a million dollar deal because just like Mixer I have a feeling the site will go under and they will fulfill their contracts and I will be right back on Twitch.

Streamer is probably still annoyed about the failed deal

What was that deal? In September 2022, Sodapoppin admitted it was still upset about turning down a deal with Microsoft platform Mixer in 2019.

Streamers like Ninja and shroud had made millions from their moves and then, after Mixer failed, they were able to come back to Twitch like nothing happened – just with a lot more money in their pockets. Sodapoppin is apparently determined not to let such an opportunity pass by again.

He could definitely be an attractive candidate for Kick, because with his 8.2 million followers he has the tenth largest Twitch channel in the world. If he were to bring some of his fans to the new platform, it might well be worth it. Whether Kick wants someone who openly bets on the end of the platform remains to be seen.

In the German streaming scene, too, many people are flirting with an alternative to Twitch. MontanaBlack, one of the largest German streamers, has spoken several times about its dissatisfaction with the platform. However, a change is only an option for him under certain conditions:
