The streamer Timothy Betar is a successful streamer on Twitch as TimTheTatman. The now 34-year-old became known to a wider public in 2017 when he played the shooter Fortnite in the group of the then super star Ninja and was often the butt of jokes. But times have changed. In the new hero shooter Marvel Rivals, TimTheTatman is twice as big as Ninja on Twitch – and better.
This is how TimTheTatman became known: TimTheTatman has been a streamer on Twitch since 2011 and has been doing it full-time since 2014. He achieved some success with CS:GO and Overwatch in 2015 and reached around 8,500 viewers.
TImTheTatman really got started with Fortnite in 2017 when he played with the then hyper-successful streamer Ninja. The grumpy and somewhat clumsy streamer was repeatedly the victim of Ninja, the star at the time, who made fun of TimTheTatman’s mistakes.
“Timmy” always seemed to be a step slower than his agile partner and kept hearing jokes. All “jokingly” of course. TimTheTatman had to put a good face on the bad game.
But people started to really like TimTheTatman and while Ninja’s star fell, TimTheTatman became more and more successful as a “grumpy dad who’s starting to go bald” and moved to YouTube for big money.
TimTheTatman is now much bigger than Ninja on Twitch
This is the dynamic now: The lucrative exclusive contract with YouTube expired in September 2024 and TimTheTatman has been back on Twitch since then.
But times have changed:
In a current livestream, TimTheTatman is asked after the Christmas break that Ninja would like to play with him again, but TimTheTatman has apparently had enough:
Tyler asks about me? Nah, let it go, buddy. I don’t react to it at all. […] You can tell him that I said: No, leave it alone […] I don’t want to start my day and my first stream like that. Let it be. Tell him I said it like that.
Ninja recently complained that his friends just wouldn’t play with him anymore.
TimTheTatman won’t put up with anything anymore
What’s going on there? Apparently TimTheTatman is tired of ninjas. He says Ninja called him a “bad player,” but TimTheTatman can’t stand that anymore.
Tyler says I’m bad? I won’t play with him and I hope I can play against him in a match so he understands. […] I don’t think he’s getting the idea that I’m just better than him at Marvel Rivals.
He was always better than me in every game he played. He’s better than me at Fortnite and Halo. But he’s no better than me at hero shooters.
TimTheTatman goes even further, saying Ninja would probably take prescription drugs and binge for 20 hours just to rank higher than him.
But TimTheTatman has a child – he would probably get cancer if he got involved in something like that. He couldn’t do that.
This is what lies behind it: You always don’t know how serious something like this is and how much acting goes into it, but it seems as if TimTheTatman had to put up with a lot in the earlier years and swallowed something that he simply doesn’t have to accept anymore today
Ultimately, every influencer who has as much success as TimTheTatman also has a certain ego and pride. The poor man probably had to swallow it for years. Ninja is known for many things, especially his ambition, but he is not exactly famous for his high social intelligence. Maybe Ninja has lost a lot of money while flying high over the years.
Even in the dynamic with DrDisrespect, TimTheTatman was often the good-natured guy who took the jokes, but that also came to an end: Streamer is close to tears when he talks about what his friend DrDisrespect did
