Tourism officials in Stratford are accepting applications to the Destination Development Fund, a pool of money earmarked for projects that develop and improve the city for both residents and visitors.

Formerly known as the Destination Animation Project, the fund was established seven years ago by Regional Tourism Organization 4, THE Downtown Stratford BIA and Destination Stratford to support projects “that are highly shareable and impactful.”

The group received 24 submissions last year, handing out $38,000 to 12 cultural projects ranging from local music and theater events to the annual Perth County Cycling Tour.

“It was inspiring to witness the unexpected appetite for the program in 2021,” said Rebecca Scott, general manager of Downtown Stratford BIA. “An astounding amount of applications came in by individuals and organizations, who showcased their creativity and ability to adapt in unprecedented times. We are excited to see what project ideas emerge from our community this year.”

There will be $35,000 available in 2022, officials said in a press release.

Applications opened this week.

“Stratford’s creativity knows no bounds and we look forward to seeing what the community comes up with,” said Zac Gribble, executive director of Destination Stratford.

Organizations eligible for funding include:

  • Tourism enterprises and businesses (as individual organizations or as a group) with interests in arts and culture, heritage, agri-culinary, sports, meetings and conventions, etc.;
  • Festivals and events; and
  • For-profit or non-profit organizations.

Eligible applicants can apply for support with new tourism-related experiences, enhancements to existing ones, personal protective equipment, or storytelling ideas through photo, video, and social media.
