Stratford police are warning Facebook users about a fraudulent advertisement on the social media platform featuring a lawnmower for sale at a home in Stratford.
Police received four complaints last weekend from locals who had responded to the ad. Police say the scammer requests a several hundred dollar deposit by e-transfer, only for the buyers to discover the homeowner at the address provided didn’t create the ad and isn’t selling a lawnmower.
Police say the homeowner at the address listed on the ad reported that others beyond the four initial complainants have come to pick up the lawnmower. Anyone who has fallen victim to this scam is asked to call police at 519-271-414 to file a report.
Stratford police are reminding residents that when making an online purchase it is always safest to make the payment at the time of the exchange with the seller.
