The Stratford man became the city’s newest millionaire after going seven-for-seven on the encore portion of his Lotto Max ticket on Jan. 5, which he bought at Joe’s Variety on Ontario Street in Stratford.

It was the first major win for Schultz, who said he always plays again for one dollar.

“I went to check a few of my tickets at a nearby store, and when I got to the very last ticket, I noticed all the zeros pop up on the screen,” Schultz said while picking up his winnings in a giant novelty check at the Ontario Lottery Gaming prize center. “I checked again and then I went into shock.

“I called my son to tell him the great news, but he kept asking me if I was joking because I sounded so calm, but I was 100 percent in shock.”
