Stratford man charged with smuggling stun guns into Canada by mail

A Stratford man is accused of smuggling and importing prohibited weapons after Stratford police and Canadian Border Services Agency officers executed a search warrant at a home on Orr Street.

Stratford police said the warrant was obtained after border services reportedly intercepted weapons being delivered into Canada by mail. The search resulted in officers seizing five suspected conducted energy weapons, commonly known as stun guns, that are prohibited in Canada, police said.

Police arrested and charged a 35-year-old Stratford man who was in the home at the time of the search and was allegedly known to be the recipient of weapons that had been intercepted by border services officers.

The man was taken to Stratford police headquarters and charged with importing a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of a weapon, smuggling into Canada, and keeping, acquiring or disposing of illegally imported goods. He was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Stratford court on Jan. 22, 2024.
