Strangers soon to be unmasked on Google Message they

Receiving a message from an unknown number and hesitating whether to respond or not will no longer be a problem thanks to a new feature in Google Messages.

Receiving a message and not knowing who it comes from is distressing for some people, who don’t know if they should respond, who feel anxious not knowing who is writing to them, who may be too shy to dare ask who it is… For others, these unidentified messages are a source of annoyance. If we generally end up asking “Who is it?”, sometimes we simply don’t answer, telling ourselves that, if it’s important, the person will send a message back specifying who they are. And then, there are all these spam messages, which often make us think it’s a scam. For all these scenarios, it would be very practical to be able to identify unknown numbers… Well, good news, it will soon be possible!

Android Authority, a specialist site, has noticed an important change in the latest beta version of the Google Messages application. This concerns notifications of new messages: users of the app who receive a message from an unregistered number will see its name appear in the notification. Practical, to recognize people who contact us whose number we have lost or who have changed it, but also to know if it is an error and thus indicate it to the sender or not respond.

However, for this to work, there is one condition: that the sender has enabled the profile discovery feature. This step is essential to access the identity of the unknown sender. To do this, you must go to the Google account settings. In the “personal information” section, where you can change the profile photo and the name associated with the phone number, you can activate or deactivate the profile discovery function.

If they now wish to unmask strangers, users will have to remember to activate this option. Regarding phishing messages, the senders could also modify their information to pretend to be someone else. We must therefore remain vigilant and continue to ignore questionable messages.
