In the 4th season of Stranger Things, villain Vecna raged and claimed numerous victims. One of these is Sadie Sink’s portrayed Max, one of the most important and popular characters the Netflix series. Max went through hell in the new episodes and was even dead for a minute in the meantime.
However, she was able to be brought back from the afterlife by Eleven. However, her fate is not entirely clear. At the end of Season 4, Max is in one comatose state and it is questionable where their journey goes. Even Eleven cannot reach her with her powers. But it could have been worse.
Stranger Things on Netflix: Max almost died in season 4
In the Stranger Things aftershow, Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, the creative minds behind the series, reveal that they briefly toyed with the idea of Letting Max die this season.
That was one possibility we discussed. A time long that’s exactly what should happen. But now we have landed here. We wanted to end the season with a slightly bigger question. It’s still a very dark ending and we don’t yet know if Max [in Staffel 5] will be fine again. We deliberately left that open.

It looks like the Duffer brothers themselves still don’t know what’s going to happen to Max in Stranger Things Season 5. Here a big problem of the series becomes clear: the main characters have become immortal, which significantly reduces the dramaturgical drop in Stranger Things. Max’s death could have been a defining mark as we head straight for the series finale.
