Strandängsskolan’s principal after the downpour in Båstad: “Standed with water up to my knees”

During most of Thursday, Båstad was hit by a heavy downpour and also during Friday, SMHI has a yellow warning for downpour-like rain in the area.

At Strandängsskolan, the basement premises are flooded, but even in the premises on ground level, the rain has flowed in when the doors could not withstand the high water. Therefore, at 9 pm in the evening, the municipality decided that the school will be closed on Friday. The headmaster informed the staff about what happens next during a meeting in the school’s gymnasium.

– We have no premises to be in, says principal Björn Lokind.

Stressful before the summer holidays

During the day, the municipality will make a decision about what happens next week, but the principal is hopeful that teaching will be able to continue, even if it may be in alternative premises.

The summer holidays are around the corner and right now the teachers are busy with assessments and grading.

Do you have time for this?

– Not really, but we now ensure that the staff get access to the material they need to be able to work, says Björn Lokind.
