More than a million homes and businesses in 11 states are without power after severe storms with hail and thunderstorms moved across the US East Coast on Monday. Tornado warnings have been issued in over ten states, from Tennessee to New York.

At least two people, a 28-year-old man in Alabama and a 15-year-old boy in South Carolina, have died as a result of the storm. The man was struck by lightning, and the boy by a falling tree.

In several places, trees and power lines have fallen over roads and houses, but the initial reports so far indicate no more extensive damage, US media reports

Thousands of flights have also been canceled or delayed. Many of the flights were canceled at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.
