Storm in West Sweden – trees have blown over

Trees have fallen over roads and houses in western Sweden during the night’s storm and traffic is expected to be affected on Monday.
In Norway, 24 roads are closed due to landslides and the strong winds will continue during the day.
– If you have loose items out there or boats in the water, make sure they are properly lashed because this will last, says TV4’s meteorologist Madeleine Westin.

SMHI has issued yellow warnings for storm surges along the entire Swedish coast during the night to Monday. West Sweden has been worst hit, where trees have fallen over roads and houses. In Alingsås, Skara and Borås it caused traffic jams when the trees fell over roads during the night and in Lerum and Alingsås trees have also fallen over houses.

In Kungsbacka, hundreds of people have also lost power due to the storm. Västtrafik also states for The Gothenburg Post that you can expect delays due to the storm on Monday.

24 roads closed in Norway

Norwegian VG reports that 24 roads in Western Norway have been closed, most of which remain closed due to landslides. Several villages are now completely isolated, one of them is the town of Odda, where a metal roof has blown away with the wind and crashed into a neighbor’s house.

– Norway has been hit hard, large floods, landslides and strong winds, says TV4’s meteorologist Madeleine Westin.

According to the Norwegian police, there is also a risk that new landslides may occur during the day.

Strong winds during Monday

The strong winds will persist over large parts of Sweden during Monday.

– It will probably be most difficult in the southern parts of the country, during the night it has been blowing 32 meters per second in the gusts at the bottom of the south, says Madeleine Westin.

Even in northern Sweden, the winds will persist and heavy rainfall is also expected there, which could cause problems in traffic.

– If you have loose items out there or boats in the water, make sure they are properly lashed because this stuff will last, says Madeleine Westin.
