The Emilia-Romagna region, which stretches along the river, is suffering from rising water
The effects of the floods caused by storm Boris, which raged at the end of last week, are spreading even further.
Schools have been closed and homes evacuated in northern Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region.
According to the Italian public radio company RAI, more than 1,000 people have been evacuated. So far, however, the number of evacuees is lower than last year’s floods in the same area. The townspeople living on the ground floor have been assigned to temporary accommodation in the 30,000-inhabitant Lugo. The city is located along the river Seniojoki, which has risen from its bed.
The exceptional situation is estimated to last for several days, as the water flowing down from the hills will reach the settlements in the valleys with a delay.
At least 23 people have died in accidents related to storm Boris in a wide area from Romania to Poland.
