Aromatic amines (primary, secondary and tertiary) are hydrocarbons derived from ammonia used for the manufacture of coloring materials, in pharmaceutical products, in the rubber and plastics industry. Their quantities are regulated because several aromatic amines are proven or suspected carcinogens. Some are classified by the European Union and the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).
