  • Stop in train traffic outside Helsingborg

    There is a stop in train traffic south of Helsingborg due to an electrical fault.

    Trains are now canceled or rerouted via Rååbanan, write South Sweden.

    Skånetrafiken has also deployed replacement buses for the Öresund trains.

    The forecast is that the fault should be resolved during the afternoon, according to the Swedish Transport Administration.

  • Terraced house on fire in Tumba: “Strong smoke development”

    Police and emergency services have been alerted to an address in Tumba, south of Stockholm.

    – There must be heavy smoke development. Residents have been evacuated and we have units from five stations on site, says Mathias Wikland, officer on duty at the rescue service.

    The alarm came just before 07 on Thursday morning.

    There is currently no information on personal injuries.

    At 00:30 on Thursday night, the police were called to an address in Malmö after someone threw a Molotov cocktail at a house.

    The bottle broke but it never caught fire.

    The incident is being investigated as attempted arson.

    No one has been injured.

    Heavy rain and strong winds rock Japan as a typhoon hits the country.

    Three people have died in a mudslide caused by the heavy rains earlier this week.

    The typhoon reached Kyushu, the southernmost of Japan’s four major islands, on Thursday morning. The highest level warnings have been issued for strong winds, high waves and heavy rainfall. As much as 60 centimeters of rain could fall in 24 hours, according to the Japan Meteorological Institute.

    People living in the area are asked to take shelter in community centers and other public buildings.

    In the coastal city of Miyazaki, 26 people were injured in the storm, while 126 cases of damage to buildings were reported, an official told AFP.

    According to the Japanese television channel NHK, up to 50 people have been injured in Miyazaki and the nearby city of Kagoshima, while one person is missing. Most of the damage was minor and had been caused by windows smashed by the strong wind, according to NHK.

    UN Secretary General António Guterres criticizes Israel’s attacks on the West Bank. In a post on X, he writes that what he calls “Israel’s launch of a large-scale military operation” is deeply disturbing.

    “I strongly condemn the loss of life, including children, and I call for an immediate end to these attacks,” Guterres wrote.

    At least 10 people were killed and 22 wounded in coordinated Israeli raids and airstrikes on four West Bank cities – Jenin, Nablus, Tubas and Tulkarem – on Wednesday, according to the Red Crescent. According to Hamas, the dead must have been fighters for the group, AP writes.

    Israeli raids in the West Bank are not unusual, but they rarely target multiple locations at the same time.

    Heavy rain and strong winds rock Japan’s southernmost island of Kyushi as a typhoon slams into the country Thursday morning.

    Three people have died in a landslide caused by the heavy rains.

    As much as 60 centimeters of rain could fall in 24 hours, according to the Japan Meteorological Institute.

    The concern is great for what the coming days will mean when the typhoon slowly moves upwards over the country.

    Hundreds of domestic flights, regional trains and some local trains are canceled during Thursday.

  • Madness ride on E4 – teenager injured

    An 18-year-old man was taken to hospital by ambulance after a crazy ride on E4 during the night towards Thursday.

    The car collided with a truck at the height of Sjösa in the municipality of Nyköping and then drove into the central guardrail.

    – We received an alarm at 02.20 that a car damaged in a crash was driving strangely and wobbly to the north. Then we went out on the E4 and saw the car, but we never had time to try to stop it. Two minutes later the accident occurred. It has gone quite quickly, says Lars-Göran Nilseryd, police officer on duty.

    According to the police’s initial assessment, the 18-year-old survived without life-threatening injuries.

    – We have spoken to him. He was pinned in the driver’s seat, but said someone else had driven the car, says Nilseryd.

    The man is now suspected of drugged driving, negligence in traffic and illegal driving.

    E4 was closed in the northbound direction during the rescue work.

  • Convicted of sexual offenses against children – remanded in custody

    Since 2019, a man in Skåne has been sentenced on three occasions for sexual offenses against a total of 40 children. Now he is in custody again, suspected on probable cause of two cases of exploiting children for sexual posing.

    – He is a repeat offender. As soon as we receive a report, we must act quickly, says prosecutor Ingegerd Jigin to Trelleborg’s Allehanda.

    The last time the man was convicted of a similar crime, he received a year in prison.

  • Guard hit during road construction – motorist lost control

    A guard has been hit during road work in Vällingby in Stockholm.

    The motorist fled the scene, according to the police officer on duty, Jenny Ryberg.

    The alarm came in at 10 p.m.

    – The man is slightly injured. We don’t know exactly what happened, but we have a handle on the driver now, she says.

    The motorist is suspected of causing bodily harm and contagion from a traffic accident.

  • SMHI warns of thunder and rain

    SMHI has issued a yellow warning for thunder in northwestern Götaland and western Svealand.

    According to the weather authority, torrential rain and strong gusts of wind are also expected.

    Due to the rain, there is a risk of flooded roads, basements and that the electricity supply and train traffic are disrupted.

    The warning applies from Thursday afternoon to Saturday night.

    At the age of 54, the world’s oldest sloth has fallen asleep.

    The two-toed sloth, who went by the name Jan, was born in the wild and then spent 38 years of his life at the Krefeld zoo near Düsseldorf in Germany.

    “It was very difficult for his caretakers to say goodbye to him, as many of them have cared for him for over 25 years,” the zoo writes in a statement.

    “He was nicknamed the ‘record sloth’ not only for his age, but also for his high number of offspring,” writes the zoo.

    In 2021, Jan’s age earned him a place in the Guinness Book of Records, as the oldest living sloth in captivity. Since then, he has been recognized in the record book every year.

  • UN: Israel fired at marked UN vehicle

    The UN accuses Israel of shelling a clearly marked UN vehicle in a convoy with at least ten bullets as it approached an Israeli roadblock, Reuters reports.

    Now the UN food program WFP is temporarily pausing its work in Gaza.

    According to WFP, the vehicle must have received several permits from Israeli authorities to pass the roadblock.

    No one should have been physically harmed.

    A woman in her 30s has been hit by a tram in Gothenburg.

    The alarm came in at 8 p.m.

    – We are on site, but we do not have much information at the moment, says Jens Andersson at the police.

    At 9 p.m., the police state that the woman did not need to be taken to hospital.

    The incident is being investigated as negligence in traffic.

    A motorboat has started to burn outside Ljungskile.

    The alarm came in at 7 p.m.

    – It is a leisure boat that was moored at a small island. The two people on board were able to step onto the island, says Malin Karlsson, command operator at the rescue service.

    Maritime rescue, police and emergency services have been alerted to the scene.

    No one was injured in connection with the fire.

  • New mining agreement – Samiby withdraws the appeal

    The mining company Viscaria and the Sami village of Laeva have entered into a cooperation agreement regarding the Viscaria mine in Kiruna.

    The agreement means that Laevas must be compensated for the impact of the mining operations on reindeer herding in the Viscaria area. In addition, Laevas must withdraw its appeal against Viscaria’s environmental permit issued by the Land and Environment Court.

    “I am very happy that we have reached an agreement and we look forward to working together with Laeva’s Sami village to create good conditions for both mining operations and reindeer herding. We are continuing our work to be able to reopen the mine in 2026,” says Jörgen Olsson, CEO of Viscaria in a press release.

    The agreement is valid for 15 years and can then be extended by the parties, but Laevas has the right to terminate the agreement early.

    “Laeva’s Sami village has made a big and difficult decision today and has chosen to enter into a cooperation agreement with Viscaria. We look forward to a good dialogue with the company going forward”, says Niila Inga, chairman of Laeva’s Sami village in the press release.
