The mountain station at Kebnekaise will remain closed until August 10, after the stomach bug spread. In the days leading up to that, the station will be cleaned.
There have been several cases earlier this summer, but last Saturday the Swedish Tourist Association (STF), which runs the facility, judged that there had been too many.
“We see that guests are falling ill at a faster rate, which makes it increasingly difficult for us to isolate guests, sanitize spaces at the required rate and allocate separate rooms for those who are sick”, writes STF on its website.
The association emphasizes that it understands the concern and frustration that the closure and the situation creates, but that it is now time to take responsibility.
“We need to stop the spread of infection at the mountain station and give the staff a chance to properly clean all areas and bring new people to the area. “
Earlier this year, the sewer was destroyed by strong water flows in the area and the station had to switch to using dass.
Guests who have booked in during the days when the station will now be closed will get their money back, according to STF. The aim is to be able to open again on August 10.
