Swiss police have saved two abducted dogs – and arrested a Norwegian man suspected of the theft.

The dogs of the rare, Russian breed Bolonka were stolen from his 59-year-old-then away-owner near Zurich last week.

When the man came home, the dogs were gone. In a letter, the kidnapper demanded a ransom of 1 million Swiss franc, corresponding to almost SEK 11.5 million, to release the animals.

Last Thursday, a 30-year-old Norwegian was arrested at the airport in Zurich, according to police reasonably suspected of involvement in the theft. Through European police cooperation, the investigation led to Poland, where Polish police this week managed to find the dogs at home with a now arrested 38-year-old.

The dogs were reunited with their owner in Switzerland last Friday.

Dogs of the breed Bolonka (Ruskaja Tsvetnaja Bolonka) can be sold for tens of thousands of dollars. The breed developed in Russia in the 1950s and is a combination between Bichon Frisé, Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso.
