Two women have been arrested by Greek police on suspicion of repeatedly stealing other passengers’ suitcases at the international airport in Athens.

During a house search, many bags containing cash, including Swedish kronor, were found.

The women are suspected of eight bag thefts since November last year. They are believed to have taken the bags from the conveyor belts with them in connection with flying domestically and landing in Athens.

Bags containing clothes, shoes, wallets and sunglasses were found in the women’s home. There was also cash in the form of Angolan kwanza, Bulgarian lev, Polish zloty, South African rand, Russian ruble and Swedish kronor.

It is not clear from the police statement whether any Swedish bag owners have been contacted.
