Stockholm Prides parade starts • Major traffic impact

Published: Less than 30 min ago

At 1 p.m., 50,000 pride participants march through Stockholm’s inner city.

The parade is expected to have a major impact on traffic as several streets will be closed.

– There will simply be few people out in town, so don’t be in a hurry, says SL’s press communicator Johan Nordgren.

Stockholm Pride is in its final sprint, but the parade remains.

At 1 p.m. the start goes off at Norr Mälarstrand and then it winds through the inner city and ends at Östermalm’s IP.

During the following hours, the police expect a large traffic impact. Several streets are closed and those who have the roads by are asked to leave the car at home.

– We must ensure that the motorcade can proceed without serious disturbances. They will move through large parts of the inner city, says police spokesperson Towe Hägg.

The roads closed:

  • Rålambshovsleden (08.00-18.00)
  • North Mälarstrand (13.00-18.00)
  • Vasagatan (13.00-18.00)
  • Kungsgatan (13.00-18.00)
  • Sturegatan (13.00-18.00)
  • Lidingövägen (13.00-18.00)

The fatal shooting before Oslo’s Pride parade at the end of June has also caused the Stockholm police to tighten security at the site.

    – We have included it in the planning and are fully aware of what is happening in the outside world, says Towe Hägg and continues:

    – We will use drones as aids together with patrols that work on segways and bicycles so they can move quickly.

    Bus routes are cancelled

The closed roads also have an impact on bus traffic. Several lines have been rescheduled or canceled as a result of the parade and car show at Solvalla.

Bus line 75 will be completely closed between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m., while line 76 will be stopped between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

    – You can’t turn buses anywhere and when there are shutdowns like this, we have to plan again. There are many bus routes that have new routes and we have tried to ensure that there is traffic everywhere in town, says SL’s press communicator Johan Nordgren.

Now he urges people to use rail transport – and to keep their patience.

    – It is better to take the subway through the city. Commuter trains and shuttle boats also work well.

    – But things can arise that we didn’t expect and then it’s good advice to be out in good time. There will be a lot of people in town.
