Stina Nilsson has had a crappy season as a biathlete.
Now she also ends the season with an unexpected decision – where she goes against herself.
– It is a year of the dog this year, I think, she tells SportExpressen.
The third season in the new sport of biathlon was extremely tough for Stina Nilsson, who not only had to struggle with skiing and shooting. But also disturbed by troublesome illnesses that have affected the tough season.
Nilsson’s season
Expectations were high ahead of the season, but after a series of weak results during the winter, the 29-year-old was kicked out of both the World Cup and Biathlon World Championships. Then the season ended in the worst possible way with painful ailments.

Nilsson missed the last two World Cup competitions of the season in Östersund and Holmenkollen.
– I think you can catch an illness, you fix it, but when it happens again and again. It’s hard to start up all the time and I noticed that now at SM. It’s something that lies in, then it gets better and better, says Stina in an interview with SportExpressen.
– But being forced to take retakes after retakes is not something I’m used to. Because I’m actually generally quite healthy, but after the corona in May last year, a door has been opened so that you can build up your immune system again. It’s not for nothing that we have a reputation for being very public-shy.

Stina’s setback
She herself feels that it has been a tough season with a 33rd place as the best placement at the World Cup. The only glimmer of light was the fine EC bronze in the mixed relay.
– Of course, I feel that I wanted more for this season, but I feel excited to start work for the next one. Because I want more. It’s a year of the dog this year, I think, and I’m prepared that everything can’t go well. Last year there was a boost with my first podium in the World Cup and everything flowed great at the end. It is not always the case that it does. As an elite athlete, you always have to be prepared to parry and rebuild your puzzle, the Swede admits to the evening newspaper.

After she made a comeback again to the Biathlon Championship, the plan was to also end the season with the Championship in cross-country skiing. A tradition she has had since she changed sports three years ago is to continue competing for her home club in the team sprint.

But now another setback has put an end to Stina Nilsson as she has again become ill and is therefore forced to decline the cross-country EC in Kalix, a decision she did not want to make at all. Instead, she leaves the country to find new energy and recharge for the upcoming biathlon season, which begins with pre-season already in May.
– There will be a holiday in Crete with the family, it’s probably the seventh or eighth year in a row, so I’m looking forward to it. Then there will be a lot of scooters, waffles and skiing, says the 29-year-old in the interview.
