Stina Nilsson was back in the World Cup.
But now comes the setback.
The Swede is forced to sit out Thursday’s competition at home.
The season has really been a roller coaster for Stina Nilsson. The Swede entered his third season as a biathlete with high expectations, but there have mostly been headlines about slow ride times, wobbly shooters – and pokes from the World Cup.
Back in the World Cup
Stina Nilsson did not get a place in Sweden’s World Cup squad, but last weekend was back in the World Cup again, after being poked for much of this year. It turned out to be a total nightmare though, as her pole broke right at the starting gate, and she never recovered from that.
The poor placing in the sprint led to her not being able to go to the start of the chase either, but despite the miss, Nilsson got the chance in the squad that Sweden presented on Monday, which will represent blue and yellow during the competitions at home in Östersund this week. Nilsson was one of six names on the list, but now comes a major setback.

Big setback
On Wednesday, Sweden and coach Johannes Lukas announce that Nilsson is forced to sit out Thursday’s opening competition in Östersund. The reason is that the star has caught a cold, and thus she does not get the chance for revenge after last week’s weak results during the World Cup competition.
Stina Nilsson is replaced by 24-year-old Ella Halvarsson, who has just returned home to Sweden from Canada after competing in the IBU Cup. There are diseases in Sweden and Sebastian Samuelsson will also miss the competitions this week, as he tested positive for covid-19. Samuelsson’s national team mate Emil Nykvist is also ill.
