Stina Nilsson’s honest words after the comparison with Petter Northug

Stina Nilsson surprised everyone in her long-distance debut.

Which makes Stina open up about the big change with the new sport.

After four years as a biathlete has Stina Nilsson a completely new challenge ahead. The 31-year-old has left the rifle behind and switched back to cross-country skiing, but this time it will be a full-on long-distance race.

Stina’s great success

The Swede also got off to a dream start this weekend when she made her debut at 90 kilometers. Stina surprised everyone by winning the Klarälvsloppet after an impressive finish.

It has caused many to raise their eyebrows and look forward to the winter with Nilsson on the ski tracks. The SVT expert Anders Blomquist she compares to herself Peter Northug.
– A good comparison. What she did was impressive. She rode smart, she loves the tactics and used all her strengths, says “Blomman” to the TV channel.

Nilsson admits

TV expert Blomquist sees a clear difference in Stina Nilsson as a biathlete and cross-country skier. And that the new sport will suit her perfectly.
– I haven’t been close enough to Stina to explain why she skied so slowly by “Stina Nilsson measurements”, as she did as a biathlete. Several other ladies in the biathlon national team rode the Klarälvsloppet last year and then they were extras and suspended after one mile. So Stina is something completely different, he says in his analysis.

Nilsson also admits himself that the shift from biathlon to cross-country skiing feels much easier than the change between cross-country skiing and biathlon.
– There are big differences between all three sports, but biathlon differs the most from the other two. This is not least because biathlon is much more coach-controlled. There it is a lot that everyone does the same thing, at the same time, and that everyone in the national team has the same set-up, she says in an interview with Norwegian langrenn.com.
– In cross-country skiing, there are more longer passes and more staking than in traditional cross-country skiing. But I feel that the transition from biathlon to cross country is easier than from traditional to biathlon.
