Stina Nilsson is one of our most prominent Swedish skiers.
But she is not only good at skiing, but there is also a hidden talent.
– It feels cool to say that, Stina revealed in an interview.
Swedish skiing hero Stina Nilsson is in the middle of a second career in her sporting life. First she became a world-class skier in cross-country skiing with both Olympic gold and World Cup gold, but since two and a half years ago, it is biathlon that applies to the valley hill from Malung.
Stina’s hidden talent
She is still struggling to fully master the new sport and so far the best record has been an individual third place in the World Cup. Stina has also had to struggle before and is used to it, she especially remembers the tough injury in 2019.

The Swede was forced into rehabilitation just a few months before the 2019 World Ski Championships in Seefeld, Austria. Then she had to find kicks on the side of cross-country skiing and learned a whole new hidden talent to keep her spirits up.
– When I didn’t get it continuously from cross-country skiing, I had to get it some other way. So I started learning Russian via an app, Nilsson revealed when she was a guest on the TV program “Skavlan”.
– I think it’s a cool language. It feels cool to say: “I speak a little Russian”.

“Feeling cool”
The obvious question becomes, of course, how much use does Stina Nilsson actually have of speaking Russian.
– Most likely none at all. But it’s a lot of fun to throw out some words, she said.

In an interview with Aftonbladet, the Swede explained in more detail how the studies of Russian went.
– I’ve had a little app that reminded me when I didn’t do my five minutes a day, so I got an angry message reminding me. When everything was shit, I thought that I must have some purpose in life and thought that I should learn Russian. The men’s coach Mattias Nilsson had learned and was so good, I became such a fan of him. I felt that I also want to know Russian. It’s just because I feel cool then…, she has said.

After learning Russian, Stina Nilsson managed to get back before the World Ski Championships in 2019. And then she brilliantly won double World Championship gold and a World Championship silver in Seefeld.
