Stina Nilsson now receives the heavy news that she is being pushed from the World Cup – the talent gets the chance instead

It has been a tough start to the season for Stina Nilsson.
Now she is kicked from the World Cup.
The big talent gets the chance instead.

Stina Nilsson was one of the best cross-country skiers in Sweden, and won, among other things, an Olympic gold and two World Cup golds as a cross-country skier. But in 2020, she changed her sport to biathlon, and after that the path has not been as straight for the popular athlete.

Strikes back

The 30-year-old has had ups and downs in biathlon and has been in and out of the World Cup squad for the past four seasons. Her second season was a big step forward for Stina Nilsson, but last season was a step back. The question of whether she was right to switch to biathlon has been asked more and more.

Nilsson himself has no regrets.
– It is the experts’ job to think. As long as I am asked if I regret my change, I will always say that I do not regret it.
– I’m really tired of that talk, but at the same time it’s good that it keeps interest in the sport alive. And I know why it’s being written, it’s because it’s interesting, she told Expressen earlier this week.

Nilsson is poked

This season has started weakly for Stina. After weak placements in the Swedish premiere, she followed it up by finishing 84th in the World Cup premiere. In his last race, the Värmlander was 69th, and did not qualify for the start of the hunt.
– I still want to move forward in my development. Someone else can decide, but I want more than this, Nilsson told the evening newspaper.

This weekend the World Cup continues in Hochfilzen. Now comes the tough news that Stina Nilsson is once again kicked out of the World Cup, after her weak results. Instead, it’s the talent Sarah Andersson who gets the chance. The 20-year-old has done well in the IBU Cup and is back in the squad, just like Stina’s boyfriend Emil Nykvist.
– We take three podium places and a good start to the season. We have seen that we have high capacity and go into the coming weeks with a good feeling, says head coach Johannes Lukas according to Expressen.
