Stina Nilsson is compared to Petter Northug after the long-distance win

Stina Nilsson won her long-distance debut on roller skis this weekend.
After the victory, SVT expert Anders Blomquist compared her to Norwegian Petter Northug.

– It’s a good analogy and they have a lot of characteristics that are the same, he says to SVT Sport.

The former cross-country skier and biathlete Stina Nilsson31, has changed sports once again. Nowadays, she invests in long-distance running and has been training for it since April. Last Sunday, she did her first official competition, on roller skis, of course, when she competed in the Klarälvsloppet, which is 90 km long.

Similar to Northug

Not only Stina entered the race. She won her premiere at the distance. She hooked the Ski Classics star and Vasaloppet winner Emilie Fleten long and with a mile left in the race it was clear that one of the two would win. In the race, however, Nilsson was completely superior and sprinted home to his very first long-distance victory.

After the victory, SVT expert Anders Blomquist was very impressed by Stina. He began to liken her to another great skier, the Norwegian Peter Northug who also started investing in long-distance running after a six-year absence from cross-country skiing.

– It’s a good analogy and they have many characteristics that are the same. Extremely strong heads, very high speed and loves the tactics and is not afraid to play those cards and just lie back, not up and pull. They use their strengths and they do it well. So they are quite similar to each other, he says in SVT Sport.

Raises the finger of warning

Even when Blomquist is impressed by Stina Nilsson’s debut, he raises a warning finger towards her. It is a completely different thing to ski on snow than to push forward on roller skis on bare ground.

– There is a difference between roller skiing in September and skiing during the season. It will be tougher races, more friction, more climbs. It is not a given that what you do on roller skis, you will get it out in the winter. The question is, will she be able to withstand the heavy attacks then?, he asks himself.

It wasn’t a bad comparison there by Anders Blomquist. Of course it is flattering for Stina to be compared to Petter Northug.
