Stina Nilsson ends her career as a biathlete – and changes sports again(!)

Stina Nilsson shocks the entire skiing world again.
After four years as a biathlete, she is now putting her gun on the shelf.
The 30-year-old has decided to change sports again – and now to something completely different.

It was four years ago that Stina Nilsson surprised everyone by leaving cross-country skiing after both Olympic and World Cup gold. After the development pointed upwards in the first two seasons, the last two winters have been very tough for the 30-year-old.

Nilsson’s decision

Now comes the new shock message from Stina. She chooses to end her investment in biathlon altogether and thus put the rifle on the famous shelf, reports SVT.

Instead, Nilsson will change sports again and start a completely new venture for next season.
– I’m going to go long-distance running next year, which feels great. Even when I switched to biathlon, I saw myself as almost a three-stage rocket. It will be cross-country skiing, biathlon and then I will try long-distance running. And now it feels very right and exciting!, she tells the TV channel.

Stina changes sports

Stina Nilsson has already signed a two-year contract with the Norwegian big team Team Ragde Charge, owned by the skiing legends Jörgen Aukland and Anders Aukland. She is leaving the World Cup and will now compete at Ski Classics, the decision itself was actually simple according to her.
– No, it was very easy. But that was also the case when I closed my cross-country skiing chapter. As a person, I am 100% one way or the other and when I feel ready with it, which I did after I made the decision, it has been like closing a book and opening a new one, she says in the interview.
– I think there is a timing for everything and now the timing came very timely.

With this, the 30-year-old can sum up a biathlon career that over four seasons resulted in two podium places at the World Cup and four podium places at the IBU Cup.
– The first two years were very good and I made a lot of progress and I am super proud of that. With the fact that I got a podium place in the World Cup. I value that very highly, that I got there, she tells SVT.
– Then there are two worse seasons when the shooting hasn’t worked, and when the skiing has worked, I still haven’t been able to be satisfied. You can be in great shape, shoot a great prone shot and then shoot yourself standing still. I was quite tired of that at the end, that I had done so well but still something was not right.
