Stina Nilsson switches to long-distance running.
Now she also reveals that she was asked about a bet in the most unexpected sport.
– No, but it’s so crazy, says Nilsson.
Stina Nilsson shocked everyone when she chose to suddenly end her career as a cross-country skier for a venture into biathlon. For many years, she belonged to the absolute top tier in the world in the sport, and her merit list includes both Olympic and World Cup gold.
Change sport again
But Nilsson had gotten tired and wanted to try something new, and it was during enormous commotion that she chose to start practicing shooting instead, and initially her career as a biathlete went straight up. But the development stopped, and last winter she was poked by the biathlon national team and instead had to bet on the IBU Cup, far away from the world top.
Last spring, Stina Nilsson made a new bold decision regarding her career, when she announced that her venture into biathlon is over, and that she will instead compete in cross-country skiing and Ski Classics in the future. It immediately opened up speculation about whether she will be relevant for the national ski team again, but she has decidedly shot down that. Her full focus is on longer races, and she now believes at the same time that this is the last “change” she is making as an active athlete. However, she reveals at the same time that there was interest in her – from the walking association.
– In sports, this will be the last, although… I probably just have to say this. I received a call from the walking association last spring. No, but it’s so crazy!, she says in the podcast “Lagom Kondition”.
Unexpected proposal
Stina Nilsson talks about the call that came earlier this year, and how surprised she actually was to receive it.
– I don’t even know what it was actually from, but someone called from the start, and asked if I wanted to bet on it, she says.
However, Stina Nilsson kindly, but firmly, refused to become, together with Perseus Karlström, the face of Sweden for the athletics branch.
– I don’t see myself like that, no. There will be no investment going on. I wasn’t really that attracted. Somewhere it feels like cross-country skiing, biathlon and long-distance running, it’s branched out. But right now I can’t see ahead. But you should never say never!, she says.
