Stig Salming’s heartbreaking confession – after the harsh criticism of Börje Salming’s tribute: “I will be sad”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Brynäs made the decision to immortalize Börje Salming on the roof.
It evoked extremely strong reactions and great criticism.
– I am sad and disappointed, says Stig Salming now according to Hockeypuls.

February 11 shall Börje Salming is honored with a tribute match of its own in the form of “Game for Börje”. Where veteran teams from Tre Kronor and the Toronto Maple Leafs will play on the ice and the whole purpose of the match is to raise money for research into ALS.

Börje’s tribute

Brynäs has also decided to pay tribute to Salming a little extra in connection with the match by doing “the ultimate tribute”, as they themselves call it. Namely to raise a wave of his jersey number 17 to the roof of the home arena Monitor ERP arena.

A nice gesture that the biggest club icons deserve, but the problem is that many do not consider Börje Salming to be a club icon in Brynäs. The decision on the vepa has now aroused strong reactions in supporter quarters and around hockey Sweden.

Great criticism

Börje’s brother Stig Salming has been reached by the critical voices and the reactions make him extremely disappointed. He also wants to clarify that he himself had nothing to do with the decision, but that it was entirely up to Brynäs.
– Of course I’ve read it and I’m sad, or maybe more disappointed that people can’t respect the board and Brynä’s goodwill to honor Börje and to do something nice for what’s to come. I don’t understand the journalists who express themselves in the way they do. I have experienced so much positiveness around everything that has been and how I have been treated by the mass media in this period. That’s why it’s so sad now that we’re approaching such a nice end that it’s going to be like this, he says in an interview according to Hockeypuls.

Above all, older brother Stig is disappointed with the Swedish media, which contributed to increasing criticism of the decision.
– There have always been people who think things but that journalists should defend it, as many young journalists have done, and chose to support their criticism, I don’t understand the point of that instead of seeing the good thing, he says in the interview.

Now he hopes that this will not overshadow the beauty that “Game for Börje” stands for and how many people it will help.
– I mean that people write anonymously in the newspaper, they have always done so. There always is, but journalists have a greater responsibility in matters like this, I think. Now I won’t say more about this other than that it is sad that people chose to choose the negative instead of seeing the good, admits Stig Salming.
