Stig Salming lost both his mother and brother Börje Salming in 2022.
Now the 75-year-old has been to Toronto for the first time after Börje’s passing.
And sends an emotional greeting from the hockey-crazy city.
It was on November 24 that the tragic news came Börje Salming fell asleep. After fighting several months against the terrible nerve disease ALS, the weakened body gave up.
Börje’s passing
By his side on his deathbed were the immediate family gathered and his older brother Stig Salming had to say goodbye to his little brother Börje. A short time later came the next death notice for Stig, when also mother Karin Salming passed away, aged 95.

Since then, it has been a time of sadness for the 75-year-old, who also played hockey for Brynäs and won 6 SM golds. Stig Salming has been busy planning a charity match in Gävle to honor Börje Salming and collect money for the hockey icon’s own organization “Börje Salming ALS foundation”

Stig’s greeting
In February, two veteran teams from the Toronto Maple Leafs and Tre Kronor will meet in a nice event for the late Börje. That’s why Stig was recently in Toronto and it was an extremely emotional trip for him to the Canadian city that loves his brother so much.

Stig took the opportunity to send a greeting from Toronto, see it below, as he stands next to Börje’s very own statue.
“Hello, Stig Salming here and sending a greeting to all followers. I am standing here outside the arena next to Börje’s statue and am here for the first time without Börje, which feels very strange. But we’ve had a good week anyway, we’ve had a meeting with Toronto about our match where Toronto’s veterans will come to Gävle and play against Tre Kronor. See you then!”, he says in the video.

The video greeting has been posted on Instagram by Börje Salming’s foundation and has received a lot of love, see the video below.
