Bianca Salming invests heavily in her athletics career.
Uncle Stig Salming strongly believes in her.
– Then it is clearly possible that she appears in the Olympics, he says to Sportbibeln.
Both Börje Salming and Stig Salming were good hockey players in their days. The sporting gene seems to have gone strong and been passed on to Börje’s daughter Bianca Salmingbut in her case, it is athletics that is being focused on.
Bianca & Stig
Bianca has for many years competed in the heptathlon. However, due to numerous injuries, it has become difficult to compete and train continuously. Before 2023, she chose to invest only in the high jump, in order to be able to make it to the World Athletics Championships in Budapest. But she did not escape the injuries despite the new investment, and needed to break the qualification during the SM.

Despite the setbacks, Bianca fights on and receives a lot of support from loved ones. Among other things from his uncle Stig. They have a good relationship despite Börje’s tragic death last year.
– We are in contact by phone, and I have been away and watched, among other things, when she was going to compete in the high jump here at the SM in Söderhamn. Unfortunately, she had to break because her foot hurt so much. But I was there and watched anyway, and tried to join in and support her, says Stig to Sportbibeln.
The big tribute
The former hockey player complains about Bianca’s many injuries that stop her from success.
– We’ll see what happens here during the winter and how she gets going, and can get rehabilitation in that foot so she can do herself justice. If there are competitions that I can go to, I will absolutely do it.

Do you have any sense of how far Bianca can go in her career?
– She is, after all, Sweden’s elite, and she is at the age where she should still be able to develop. So it is clear that, if she is healthy and able to train well, then it is clearly possible that she will appear in the Olympics, I say. That’s how it sounds when you talk to her, and that that’s her goal. Even the coach says that there is definitely capacity for it, so then we have to trust it and hope for it, says Stig Salming.
