Stig Salming won six SM golds with Brynäs.
But one stood out a little extra.
– It’s those unforgettable moments that have stuck, says Stig to Sportbibeln.
It is not as meritorious and well-known as its little brother Börje Salmings career, but certainly has Stig Salming still a very fine career to look back on today, just over 40 years after the end of his hockey career.
No regret
After being brought up in Kiruna AIF, Stig Salming went to Brynäs IF. He then played there for the rest of his career, despite offers from clubs abroad. Including NHL clubs. Stig is thus an icon in Brynäs, with whom he won six SM gold during his 13 years at the club.
Salming also played for Tre Kronor between the seasons 1974/1975 to 1978/1979. Among other things, he took part in winning WC silver in 1977 and WC bronze in 1975 and 1976.

Although there was never an adventure abroad for Stig, there is nothing he regrets from his career.
– I have made well-considered decisions regarding moving from Sweden to Europe or to Canada or the USA. And I’ve been there at an age where I thought it was simply too difficult, considering that at that time there was a lot of thinking about the children, says Salming to Sportbibeln.
Best memory
Stig further explains why there was never a move:
– When the offers appeared, my children were already ten years old. We had three kids who were going into schools and businesses in different ways, so it was really easy to pick those things out. I stayed in Brynäs, and then I also became a leader in Brynäs, so I don’t think there is anything I regret.

And no grandiose move abroad was needed for Salming to create many great memories during his hockey career.
– My best hockey memory, I usually try to analyze that and have done so at some point and concluded that the one that stands out is probably my first SM together with Börje, when we played the same back pair and so on, says Stig and continues:
– Of course there are occasions in the years I played in the national team that also come to light. The big thing was when we were over in Canada and played and Börje got this ovation when I was sitting in the booth and got to witness it (Canada Cup 1976 in Toronto). So it’s those unforgettable moments that have stuck.
