AI – Artificial Intelligence was not well received at the cinema release, but it has a lot to offer

When it was released in cinemas, AI – Artificial Intelligence was not particularly well received. It was said that it did not achieve a homogenous style and was merely a Kubrick homage (via: Filmdienst). Prisma even said, Spielberg was just boring for two and a half hours and at the end “sugared so much that everything melts into a sweet mush“. However, the film now has an impressive score of 76% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Stanley Kubrick originally wanted to make this film and gave all his notes and ideas to Steven Spielberg shortly before his death. You can clearly feel the influence of one master director on the other here. That alone makes AI a unique film, but then of course there are the images by Janusz Kaminski and the score by John Williams – and the extremely emotional last 20 minutes of the film.

Similarly crazy and also directed by a master director that film is here. Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis finally hits theaters next month after several decades of work. The most exciting sci-fi film of the year has a new trailer.
