Steven Spielberg is full of praise for the current blockbuster

If there’s one genre that Steven Spielberg knows his way around, it’s the science fiction film. Since the beginning of his career He is interested in looking into the future, the arrival of aliens and all other things that can be associated with it. A sci-fi praise from Spielberg is the greatest accolade imaginable.

Denis Villeneuve received exactly this accolade in the latest edition of the podcast Director’s Cut. The director behind Dune: Part Two chats with Spielberg for around 35 minutes about the sci-fi sequel, which has been out for a month is running successfully in cinemas. Spielberg is clearly excited about the film.

It doesn’t take long for Spielberg to put his praise into words. “You made one of the most brilliant science fiction films I’ve ever seen”, he tells Villeneuve. Spielberg was particularly impressed by one scene: the moment when Paul Atreides sees one of them for the first time rides giant sandworms.

Dune: Part Two

In the course of the conversation, Spielberg also places Villeneuve among a number of filmmakers who understand their work extremely well own worlds on the big screen, from cinema pioneer Georges Méliès to effects maestro Ray Harryhausen to blockbuster titan James Cameron.

Specifically, Spielberg says:

There are filmmakers who can create entire worlds. […] Starting with Méliès and Disney and Kubrick, George Lucas. I include Ray Harryhausen in this list. Fellini created his own worlds. Tim Burton. Of course Wes Anderson, Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott, Guillermo del Toro. The list goes on, but it’s not that longand I firmly believe that you are one of the youngest members.
