The legends Ingemar Stenmark, Nicklas Lidström and Stig Salming are seen together in a new picture.
Now comes the explanation for why the star trio met.
It’s not every day you come across a picture with several big sports figures posing together. But a photo was recently published on Instagram where three great Swedish icons meet: Ingemar Stenmark68, Nicklas Lidström54, and Stig Salming76.
That is why they are seen together
Why did two of our greatest hockey players and the world’s best downhill skier ever gather to take a picture together? Yes, you can ask that. The answer is simple. They are all ambassadors for “Börje Salming ALS Foundation”.
“Nicklas, Ingemar & Stig. There are many of us who do things to jointly take on the fight against ALS and help so that research moves forward,” writes the foundation on Instagram.
The vast majority of people who commented on the picture sent several heart emojis. Everyone feels the same warmth and love when they see the three men who are all fighting for the good cause. One person also writes: “Fantastic”.
The ALS foundation has existed since the fall of 2022 and started on Börje Salmings and his family’s initiative. Their goal is to collect money to contribute to research into ALS in Sweden and to provide support for sufferers and relatives. Börje Salming died in the aftermath of the disease on November 22, 2022.
Nicklas Lidström is one of the board members of the foundation. Other famous names are Pia Salming (Börje’s wife), Teresa Salming (daughter) and Mats Sundin.
Stig’s words about Börje
Börje’s older brother Stig was also a celebrated hockey player who spent most of his career in Brynäs. He was a back who was called “Stygge Stigge” for his slightly brusque style of play. Stig won SM gold six times with the Gävle team, for which he played from 1968-1981. He was joined at the club by his younger brother between the years 1970 and 1973.

After Börje’s death, Stig got a lot of media space to talk about his brother. He then described him as a special person who was difficult to place in any compartment. He moved across borders and liked to work in different contexts.
– It’s a mixture of being completely fearless to being anxious. You can’t quite place him. He was still a bit shy, but still public. In his own way, he illustrates all those sides in some way, he told SVT.
