(Finance) – Stellantis NV announced today that it intends increase EDM production capacity also starting production at the Szentgotthard plant, Hungary. The start of production is scheduled for end of 2026. The investmentwhich benefits from the allocation of the Hungarian government, amounts to 103 million euros.
The initiative constitutes the most recent example ofStellantis’ commitment to transforming its factories depending on its electrified future. The Company will thus be able to count on a new site dedicated to the production of EDM, which joins the plants in Tremery-Metz, France, and Kokomo, Indiana, USA. Furthermore, during 2024 the district of Mirafiori, in Italy, will increase the production of electrified transmissions a double clutch (eDCT) of new generation for Stellantis hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles.
“Starting the production of electric propulsion modules in Szentgotthard accelerates our transition towards electrification. It brings us one step closer to our goal of providing customers with clean, safe and affordable mobility,” he says Arnaud Deboeuf, Chief Manufacturing Officer of Stellantis. “The plant’s employees can be proud that their work will be an integral part of our electrified future, a fundamental factor in the electric vehicle offering of our iconic, industry-leading and increasingly customer-focused brands.”
“This investment demonstrates Hungary’s growing importance in facilitating the automotive industry’s transition towards
electrification,” he said Minister Peter Szijjarto. “Now, the production of traditional engines will be joined by that of
electric propulsion modules. With this investment we protect jobs and secure the future of the Szentgotthárd plant.”
The EDMs produced in Szentgotthard will be used in vehicles assembled on a new STLA platform dedicated to BEVs. There
EDM production will take place in the factory’s existing facilities. The new propulsion module production activities
electrical at the plant will include the machining of key components, as well as the final assembly and testing of EDM 3 in 1, the
solution that brings together the electric motor, the reduction unit and the inverter in a single unit.
In the next 10 yearsStellantis plans to invest over 50 billion euros in electrification to achieve the objectives of the Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan, which envisage reaching 100% of the sales mix with battery electric vehicles (BEV) for passenger transport in Europe and 50% with BEV cars and light commercial vehicles by 2030 in the United States. To achieve these sales goals, the Company is securing approximately 400 GWh of planned battery capacity, supported by six battery manufacturing facilities in North America and Europe. Stellantis is on track to become a zero-carbon company by 2038, all scopes included, with single-digit offsetting of remaining emissions.
