Stefan Holm is one of Swedish sports’ great heroes.
But now the high jump legend reveals an unforgettable party – along with the Jerring Prize.
– I thought: “We’ll take this one, it will be a fun thing”, he says to P4 Värmland.
This year’s Jerring Prize winner was the incomparable skating phenomenon Nils van der Poel. After double WC gold, double Olympic gold and world record, the Swede had to crown his entire sports career with a grand slam at the 2023 Sports Gala.
Holm reveals
The 26-year-old won a total of four awards at the Sports Gala in the form of Male Athlete of the Year, Performance of the Year and the heavyweight awards Bragdguldet and Jerringpriset. The latter really stands out in sports Sweden, where the prize is a really big prize.
– It is quite large and heavy, with a picture of Sven Jerring engraved. It’s substantial, it’s probably the biggest bowl I have at home, says another Jerring prize winner in Stefan Holm to P4 Värmland.

Just like van der Poel, the high jump legend managed to win both the Bragdguldet and the Jerring Prize in 2004 after winning Olympic gold and WC gold indoors in the same year. 18 years later, Holm reveals what he has done with the big bowl in Sven Jerrings honor.
– Well, but I’ve probably mostly had it standing on a shelf. However, I used it as a bonfire bowl at a summer party a few years ago. I didn’t have another bowl that was big enough, so I thought: “Well, we’ll take this one, it’ll be a fun thing”.

“A fun thing”
The 46-year-old still remembers the summer party with the Jerring prize filled with juice and spirits. And how he had to be extremely careful with the huge glass bowl.
– We made sure that it was quite in the middle of the table so that no one would accidentally pull it backwards. But otherwise it felt quite harmless actually, people were still careful and thought it was a funny thing. Among people you know, you can do such a thing without being perceived as cocky. But if it had been in a different context, it would probably have been trivial, he says in the interview.

Stefan Holm is then asked if he ever used it as a chip bowl during the Friday night. Then he also mentions a certain legendary winter sports hero who has won the Jerring Prize a total of four times.
– Chip bowl is not a stupid option if you have that disposition. I’m not a big fan of chips, but I can imagine loose candy in it. But think of Magdalena Forsberg, who has four pieces, she can offer chips, sweets, cheese bows and bonfires in them, says the high jump icon to the radio channel.
