Stefan Holm now says what all Swedes think after there will be no Olympics in Sweden: “That’s how it feels”

This week, the gloomy news came for all Swedes.
Stefan Holm’s disappointment was great.
– You should never give up completely, but…, says the former high jumper to Radiosporten.

During his career as a high jumper won Stefan Holm including four WC golds, two EC golds, 22 (!) SM golds and one Olympic gold. He also received the feat gold in 2004 for the Olympic gold from the same year.

New message

Today, Stefan Holm has all sorts of jobs. He writes romance novels together with his fiancee Jessica Eriksson. He lectures on how to become a world champion. And he trains his son Lykke Holm and other high jump talents.

Earlier this week, the International Olympic Committee announced that Sweden is no longer one of the candidates to host the 2030 Olympics. Instead, they will only proceed with France as the only candidate to have the Olympic Games on home soil again.

Holm’s disappointment

Stefan Holm sat during his career on the active committee in the IOC, and is disappointed by the confederation’s announcement.
– Now it feels done somehow. Because if we don’t get it now, and have missed it so many times before, it feels like – well, now it’s going to be Italy in 2026 and France in 2030. Then Salt Lake City will probably get it in 2034, and that’s where Switzerland seems to be in the “pipe” for 2038, and then it’s probably Asia’s turn in 2042. Then we’re talking 2046. It’s so far away that it feels like no one even knows if the Winter Olympics will still exist in 2046, says Holm to Radiosporten .

The former high jumper now has low expectations that Sweden will ever host a Winter Olympics again.
– You should never give up completely, but as I said, the next chance is so far ahead now. There will be new people in SOK before it becomes relevant again. There will be a change of government, and it will change so incredibly fundamentally before we can possibly apply again. Because after all, it might be 15-20 years in the future, says Holm.
