Stefan Holm has been reported to the police for assaulting a student.
Now the Olympic gold hero opens up about the tough time that followed.
– This has lost all proportion, he says to Radiosporten Dokumentär.
That was a couple of weeks ago Stefan Holm really hit the headlines. The high jump legend and Olympic gold hero did his very first day as a substitute teacher and it degenerated immediately.
Holm’s actions
Holm got into a fight with a couple of students and is said to have taken one of the students by the arm and dragged him back to his seat. The school has reported the incident to the police and the 48-year-old is suspected of assault.

Stefan Holm resigned immediately and the incident became a hotly debated piece of news. Where many Swedes praise and support the former track and field athlete for his actions in the difficult situation. Now he himself breaks the silence about all the attention that followed afterwards.
– I really hope that the guy is okay and that his parents are okay. I understand that the school is filing a police report, but something has happened in the classroom that is not okay. It is quite obvious that I should not be a teacher, says Holm now in Radiosporten Dokumentär.
“He did wrong”
The school student’s mother has previously told that the boy feels both scared and sad. At the same time that Holm has been showered with uplifting words on social media.
– I understand that they (the boy’s family) think it’s a pain in the ass and I really regret that. Yes, he made a mistake – but I made a bigger mistake. But this has lost all proportion and it obviously has a lot to do with the fact that I am a public figure, he says in the interview.
– I have received a lot of positive feedback, for better or for worse. I still think I’ve made a mistake, then there are many who understand my reaction and that’s nice anyway. I have received a lot of support. But soon it will be over, we’ll see. The police investigation will have its way.

Stefan Holm admits that he has had a difficult time in recent weeks and both felt depressed and had difficulty sleeping since the incident. He also reveals why he took the job as a substitute teacher.
– First, I need the money. That’s a lot. It’s not like you make money training high jump coaches in this country. I felt I could make a contribution and they needed substitutes. I thought: how difficult can it be?, he tells the radio channel.
