Steam: Millions of players see new shooter with graphics that are too realistic, but skeptics believe in fake

The police bodycam shooter Unrecord is making waves on Steam because it looks extremely realistic. Some believe there is a well-crafted fake behind it. The developer now wants to prove that the game is real.

The new shooter “Unrecord” puts you in the perspective of a body cam, such as those worn by police officers or firefighters. The shooter is developed by Alexandre ‘esankiy’ Spindler. The first image and video material has already impressed millions of players. More than 70 million people have now seen the developer’s gameplay video.

But the huge success also calls skeptics on the plan. Because they believe that what you see there can’t be real. The material is probably just a well-staged fake. Now the developer wants to prove on Twitter that his game is real.

We have included the trailer for Unrecord for you here:

Developer wants to prove that his shooter is really real

What does the developer do? Developer Alexandre ‘esankiy’ Spindler has posted several short video snippets of his game on Twitter. Here you can see not only the game, but also the developer interface. He wants to prove that this is a real game and not just a video. You can watch the 40-second video directly on Twitter:

Such raw material can also be seen in a second video on Twitter. The main aim is to fight the critics who think that he recorded it all with a real bodycam and that it can’t be a game at all:

The lead developer for yesterdays viral body cam first person shooter trailer titled UNRECORD has released a raw video to disprove the haters saying that the gameplay wasn’t real.

Many people believed this was not gameplay, but real life footage.

On Steam, the development team also commented on the allegations again and explained that it would be a real game and that there would be no real-world footage behind it. This is how the developers explain (via steampowered.com):

Many doubts have been raised about the authenticity of the game. The game was developed using Unreal Engine 5 and game footage was captured by an executable file and played with keyboard and mouse. It is not a VR game. In reality it seems rather flattering to compare Unrecord’s visuals to reality, but fortunately we know that a game’s first focus is on the gameplay and universe, which is what we focus on in the first place.

Given the high cost of producing a video game and our global reputation at stake, if Unrecord were a scam, it would be a Blockbuster scam. Therefore, logically, it is not a scam. We do not use real videos or external rendering for the Unreal Engine to create Unrecord. Unrecord is (un)real.

Another shooter on Steam also disappointed: The skepticism of the players is also understandable in a way. Because the shooter “The Day Before” had already caused a similar excitement among players. But in recent months, many players have become suspicious as to whether the pictures and videos really represent a real game. Some are now concerned that Unrecord could fall for a similar scam:
