What’s new with the OLED model? Valve has changed the Steam Deck, especially in details:

  • Display: The eponymous OLED display is new and is a little larger: from the previous 7 inches (LCD) to 7.4 inches (OLED).
  • Battery pack: The battery grows a little, from 40 Whr to 45 Whr.
  • Storage space: Valve offers an option with more storage space. You can now also buy a model with 1 TB of storage. The limit used to be 512 GB, but you could still expand the storage yourself.
  • Design colors: There are several colors available for the Steam Deck in the US. In Germany you can only buy the black model for the time being. It is not yet known whether further colors will come to Germany (as of January 5, 2024).
  • Is the Steam Deck OLED faster? No, Valve still uses the same chip from AMD in its Steam Deck. The chip in the OLED model is smaller (7 nm vs 6 nm), but this is mainly for efficiency reasons. This means that the battery life of the OLED model is significantly longer than the LCD model, depending on the game. If you “just” want more performance, then the OLED model might not be worth it for you.
