Steam has announced the best games of 2023. Where some titles are not surprising, a 25-year-old game in this list is particularly surprising.
Which categories has Steam awarded? Steam has announced its best games of 2023 and divided them into different categories.
In these categories, the various games were then awarded platinum, gold, silver and bronze.
Which game is particularly surprising this year? Of course, there are some games that probably won’t surprise anyone. So it was probably to be expected that Baldur’s Gate 3, Starfield and Cyberpunk 2077 were awarded platinum among the top sellers.
These three games also won platinum in the Steam Deck category. This probably isn’t particularly surprising to many people either. However, a 25-year-old shooter was also able to get involved last year.
The 1998 game Half Life also goes platinum in the Steam Deck category. In 2023, an incredible number of players played the iconic shooter on their deck every day.
Back in November we reported that Half Life is still one of the most important games on Steam after over 20 years.
Which other games won awards? Among the new releases, big titles such as Remnant 2, Jedi Survivor, FC24 and Hogwarts Legacy went platinum. But Sons of the Forest, for example, also won platinum in this category.
Dave the Diver is probably also one of the better-known games from 2023 and for that it gets gold in the new releases category, alongside games like Dead Space, The Finals or Mortal Kombat 1.
If you take a look at the most played games of the year, you will also find Baldur’s Gate 3 and Starfield in the platinum category. But titles like Sons of the Forest, Destiny 2, Apex Legends and CS 2 were also able to secure platinum here.
Duck Duck Goose might surprise some players in this category who haven’t heard of this Among Us clone with ducks before. But this free game also went platinum. Lethal Company, the big hit of the last few weeks, still manages to win gold in this category.
Games like Against the Storm, Farlight 84, Dave the Diver and Demonologist were able to secure platinum in the Early Access category. The horror game World of Horror, which is reminiscent of the works of Junji Ito, went gold here among other titles.
Which games surprised you on this list? Which games were you expecting? Feel free to share in the comments.
