At the southern tip of Manhattan, the Freedom enlightening the world stands on an islet facing the port since 1886. An American icon, this 46 m high statue is a gift from France to the United States, to celebrate the centenary of the Declaration of Independence. Many ferries departing from Battery Park make daily connections to Liberty Island, where the famous statue sits.
